Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster’s romance is proving to be the greatest show.
After months of swirling rumors due to their on-stage chemistry in Broadway’s The Music Man in 2022, the couple confirmed their relationship Jan. 6 by stepping out in Santa Monica, Calif., hand-in-hand after a lowkey dinner.
For the outing, Sutton, 49, donned a long brown trench with an olive green dress, black heels and a small black bag. Hugh, 56, for his part, wore white slacks, a gray sweater, black jacket and black slip-on sneakers.
Amid their walk through the Southern California city, the couple appeared in good spirits as they smiled and chatted with each other while making their way across streets and sidewalks—and never dropped each other’s hand.
The couple’s relationship confirmation comes amid a chapter of changes for them. After all, Hugh announced his separation from wife Deborra-Lee Furness in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage. Meanwhile, Sutton filed for divorce from ex Ted Griffin—with whom she shares Emily, 7, in October after 10 years together.

But while their latest outing was the first official confirmation of their romance, Hugh and Sutton have not been entirely private about their relationship in the days preceding.
In fact, The Greatest Showman star had stepped out twice in row to support Sutton during her Once Upon a Mattress residency in Los Angeles at the Ahmanson Theatre—on Jan. 4, alongside Carol Burnett who starred in the original production of the musical.
What’s more, the couple had also been publicly supportive to each other’s Music Man roles during their time on stage together from February 2022 to January 2023.
“He has an impeccable reputation of being the hardest working man, incredibly kind, and generous—and all of that is true,” Sutton gushed to Vogue in 2022. “He’s now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, ‘Well, I hope we get along.’ But we just spent Memorial Day with our families. It’s really fun to meet new friends after 40.”
