IU basketball fans chant ‘Fire Woodson’ as Hoosiers getting blown out by Illinois

BLOOMINGTON — Frustration over IU basketball’s performance reached a boiling point on Tuesday night as the team fell behind by 30 points against Illinois.

There were multiple chants of “Fire Woodson” from the student section during the first half at Assembly Hall. It was the student’s first game since winter break.

The Hoosiers (13-4, 4-2 Big Ten) are coming off a 25-point loss to Iowa that was most lopsided Big Ten regular season loss of Woodson’s tenure. It was the program’s fifth loss of 20 points of more and 12th loss by 15 or more points in 31 conference games under Woodson.

Indiana opened Tuesday night’s game 4 of 16 from the field and missed nine straight shots during a scoring drought that lasted nearly five minutes. The Illini had no such issues as it jumped out to a 27-12 lead midway through the half while shooting 57.9% and dominating the boards (15-6 advantage with 11 second chance points).

Illinois freshman Kasparas Jakucionis scored 19 points in the first half with three made 3-pointers after missing the team’s previous two games with a left forearm injury.
