Penn State Football Tailgate Show: College Football Playoff Semifinals vs. Notre Dame

The Penn State Nittany Lions Football team faces off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the right to play in the College Football National Championship game. The winner of tonight’s game will face either Ohio State or Texas for the chance to be crowned the kings of college football. Start your game day early as your Nittany Lions sit on the doorstep of the final destination with the Penn State Football Tailgate Show. Former Penn State offensive lineman Landon Tengwall discusses what he’s seen on film of the team’s matchup with Notre Dame and what he thinks will help determine the team’s chances of another win.

The tailgate show airs at 4:30 live on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. You can also hear the game in State College on 99.5 The Bus, or on Bigfoot Country Legends. The Penn State Football Tailgate Show is produced with Seven Mountains Media.

We’ll start the show in the same spot we started the week of coverage on Saturday with Penn State head coach James Franklin. He outlined how similar these two teams are from top to bottom.

“I think in a lot of ways, they are built similar to us. You look at their turnover ratio numbers, you look at their explosive play defense in terms of defending and limiting explosive plays. You look at the middle eight, they are built in a lot of ways that I think we are in terms of emphasizing the statistics that matter. And they do a great job of not beating themselves, which I think is a really important thing in college football,” he said.

“It starts with that, and then you kind of go from there and play to your strengths and things like that.”

We’ll discuss how similarly the teams are built, how often they compete for players in recruiting, and how the schemes seem to match up on the field.

In any game with closely ranked teams, the differences in talent are slim, and so there’s a default to discuss the most important position on the field: quarterback. We’ll break down which team we think has the better player under center and how the divergent skills of Drew Allar and Riley Leonard can shape this game.

Of course we’ll discuss the injury status of Abdul Carter and what fans should expect of the star pass rusher’s potential inclusion in the game plan for Penn State. How should Penn State defend Notre Dame? What are the major matchups that will shape the game? We’ll discuss all of that on the show.
