Razorbacks take down Texas Tech in AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Arkansas closes out the 2024 season with a 39-26 trophy win over Texas Tech in Memphis.

The Arkansas Razorbacks closed out the 2024 season against old Southwest Conference foe Texas Tech in 66th Annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl. This was Arkansas seventh all-time appearance in the Liberty Bowl and second in five seasons under head coach Sam Pittman. The Hogs secure their first trophy since 2022 with a 39-26 win over the Red Raiders. The Hogs got off to a hot start scoring on their first three drives of the game. Redshirt sophomore Rodney Hill, who was making his first start with the team, set the tone with a 70-yard rush. Then, Green would finish off the drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown for the early 7-0 lead. The Red Raiders got on the board with a 37-yard field goal, but it was all Razorbacks the rest of the first quarter.Rookie running back Braylen Russell found the endzone next from one yard out. Then, fellow freshman Dazmin James recorded his first career catch which turned into a 94-yard score and will go down in the history books. It’s the longest touchdown reception in program history and longest in Liberty Bowl history as well.Arkansas ended the first quarter with a 21-3 lead. Texas Tech starts chipping away at the lead in the second quarter though. It starts with a safety, then, J’Koby Williams takes off 54-yards for the Red Raiders’ first touchdown of the game, 21-12 Arkansas. A two-yard rushing touchdown by Jalin Conyers puts the Red Raiders within two but a Matthew Shipley 40-yard field goal gives the Hogs a little cushion heading into the break, 24-19 Arkansas. Second half starts the same way as the first half ended with a Shipley field goal to extend the lead. Then, Tyrell Reed tacks on a touchdown on his first career reception, and Arkansas takes a 34-19 lead into the final quarter.The Razorbacks defense puts some points on the board to start the fourth quarter thanks to an Anton Juncaj safety, 36-19 Arkansas.
