Susan J. Newhard, a beacon of compassion and dedication, passed away with family beside her, on January 15, 2025, in Bethlehem, PA. Born on June 22, 1962, in Bethlehem, PA, she was a woman whose life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to her family, her career, and the well-being of others.
The daughter of Patricia (Berger) Uhler and the late Roger Uhler, Susan grew up in a nurturing environment that laid the foundation for her caring nature. She was a sister to Roger “Sam” Uhler, with whom she shared a deep bond, and his wife Denise. Susan’s educational journey began at Liberty High School and led her to East Stroudsburg University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. Her pursuit of excellence continued at Allentown College, where she attained a Master of Science in Nursing Degree.
Susan’s professional life was marked by her role as a Director of Nursing at Moravian Village of Bethlehem, where she was revered for her leadership and heartfelt care for residents and staff alike. Before her time at Moravian Village, she dedicated many years to the Lehigh Valley Health Network, touching countless lives with her expertise and empathy.
The joys of Susan’s life were her children, Zachary Newhard, along with his wife Courtney Kitchens of Lexington, GA and Allison Newhard of Montclair, NJ,. She reveled in her role as a mother and found further delight in her four grandchildren, Easton, Zailie, Zackari, and Zayne, who lovingly referred to her as Suza and filled her days with laughter and love. Susan was also a cherished aunt to her nephews, Kyle and Alex, and niece, Caitlin. She was the favorite niece of her uncle, James.
Beyond her professional and family life, Susan had a passion for her dog, Donald, who was a loyal companion and source of joy. Susan had a gift and was known for making every environment a warm and welcoming one.
